If you’d have the chance to talk to the virus, what would you say to it? How would you talk to it?
We’d like to invite you to join the “Knit the Spike Protein” series of events where we will gather to weave a conversation with and about the virus through knitting.
‘Knitting’ represents an avenue in which we come together and get intimate with the virus, interlacing its structure and experiencing its protein, like our cells do when they get in contact with the virus. The knitting pattern will be made according to the scientific studies of the Spike protein and by knitting this protein you will become part of the artwork, the knitted pieces will form the costume used in the final performance, carrying with it all our thoughts towards the virus.
The ‘Spike Protein’ is the ‘key’ protein that tricks our human ACE2 protein on our cell surface to open the door for SARS-COV-2 to enter. At the verge of a very intimate contact between humans and the virus, this project aims at stimulating people to rethink our relationship with the virus and to create a space where to openly talk about how the pandemic has affected our life or perhaps inspired us, through collective knitting. There will be weekly online and physical (if the corona regulations allow) knitting meetings where we gather and knit together, time and dates will be released soon. These events will be held mainly in English.

This event is for everyone with a basic knowledge and experience for knitting. All committed knitters based in NL will be provided with knitting supplies and the Spike Protein pattern for free, you are also welcome to use your own creativity and experiment with the yarn colours, please get in touch for more details!
Knitters from anywhere else outside of NL are also welcome to contribute to the knitting of the spike Protein and are encouraged to submit a photo of their work on our IG account @soitrance via #knitthespikeprotein

Als jij de kans had om tegen het virus te kunnen praten, wat zou jij dan zeggen? En op welke manier zou je ertegen praten?
We zouden je willen uitnodigen voor “Knit the Spike Protein”, een serie van evenementen waarin we samenkomen en een dialoog hebben, niet alleen over, maar ook samen met het virus, door middel van breien. Het samen breien biedt de gelegenheid om dichter tot het virus te kunnen komen, een kans om de structuur ervan te weven en de eiwitten te ervaren net zoals onze cellen dat doen wanneer ze in contact komen met het virus.
Het breipatroon zal gemaakt worden volgens de wetenschappelijke studies van het Spike eiwit. Door het patroon van dit eiwit te breien word je onderdeel van het kunstwerk. De gebreide onderdelen zullen het kostuum vormen die al onze gedachtes naar het virus toe bij zich zal dragen, dit kostuum zal gebruikt worden in de uiteindelijke performance.
Het ‘Spike eiwit’ is het fundamentele eiwit die ons menselijk ACE2 eiwit aan de oppervlakte van de cel misleidt. Het Spike eiwit zorgt er uiteindelijk voor dat de SARS-COV-2 vrij spel heeft om ons lichaam binnen te dringen. Dit project begeeft zich op de flinterdunne grens van het intieme contact tussen de mens en het virus. Het stimuleert mensen om na te denken over onze relatie tot virussen en deze wellicht vanuit een ander perspectief te bekijken. Door als collectief samen te breien biedt het project ook de ruimte om openlijk te kunnen praten over hoe de pandemie ons beïnvloed of zelfs geïnspireerd heeft. Er zullen wekelijks online en fysieke (als de corona maatregelen het toestaan) brei bijeenkomsten zijn waarin we samen breien. De data zullen binnenkort bekend worden en de bijeenkomsten zullen voornamelijk in het Engels zijn.

Als je van breien houdt, en wanneer je een hoop te vertellen hebt over de pandemie, doe dan mee!
De bijeenkomsten zijn voor iedereen met een basiskennis en ervaring in breien. Alle toegewijde mensen die breien in NL, zullen voorzien worden met de nodige materialen en het Spike eiwit patroon. Je bent vrij om je eigen creativiteit te gebruiken en te experimenteren met kleuren garen, aarzel niet om in contact te komen voor meer details.
Mensen die breien buiten NL zijn ook welkom om bij te dragen aan het breien van de Spike Protein en worden aangemoedigd om een foto van hun werk in te sturen op IG, @soitrance via #knitthespikeprotein.

如果你能對病毒說話，你想對它說什麼？
一起來「織個Spike Protein」吧！讓大家共聚編織，邊聊聊病毒。
「針織」是你我和病毒展開親密互動的交集，在織造過程中，我們體現實如人類細胞成為病毒工廠，細胞機制開始織造病毒蛋白的過程。我們將科學視角所認知的spike protein轉譯為針織編織邏輯，邀請參與者共同以線與棒針來製造病毒，並在編織時自在地說出任何想對病毒說的話。
「Spike protein」是個像鑰匙一樣的蛋白質，打開人類細胞表面的ACE2 蛋白質以利 SARS-COV-2通過。在人類和病毒親密互動的臨界上，本計畫期盼讓我們重新思考與病毒的關係，並且在社群間的手織中創造一個對話的空間，談談疫情如何影響或是啟發我們的想像。
我們將每週舉辦線上或實體針織聚會（根據疫情規範而定）來邊織邊聊，敬請期待近日公布活動時程。本系列活動將會是以英文進行。如果你喜歡針織，而且有許多想要對疫情說的話，就加入我們吧！
參與者針織出來的Spike Protein將成為〈相即共生練習簿 — 出神 1:1〉作品的一部分，乘載著織者們所想說的話，成為病毒降靈的服裝的一部分。
